Essential Tools for the New Palm Beach Home Owner
Purchasing a new home is a big decision, and once the final paperwork is complete and you're handed that set of keys, you will have an entirely new list of things to focus on. Of course, you will want to decorate and furnish your new Palm Beach home like you’ve always imagined, but before you get too comfortable on the couch, it’s a good idea to make sure you have the essential tools that any new home owner requires. You’re no longer a renter and can’t rely on your landlord to fix a broken shelf or take care of an emergency plumbing situation in the middle of the night. While these tools won’t solve all of life’s problems, they will set you on the road to home ownership success!
Lawnmower- If you were previously a renter, chances are your rental came with gardeners. Now that you’re a Palm Beach home owner, you will need to tend to your lawn yourself. Investing in an electric mower will save you a lot of time and energy, especially in the Florida heat. If money permits, look into the newer 36V varieties that kick off less fumes, are lightweight, and make yardwork less of a chore.
Cordless Drill- This tool will likely get the most mileage out of anything in your toolbox. When screws need tightening or you just can’t get something loose, a cordless drill will be your best friend. Look for a high-quality one with a Lithium battery and a high power output of at least 18 volts. These are often on sale at home improvement stores, and you’ll be happy you made the investment.
Laser Level- As you start to eye where your artwork and photos should go around your new house, have a laser level handy. A combination laser level and stud finder will go a long way in saving you time and ensuring you don’t end up with useless holes in your walls. This really works better as a two person project, so settle in with your significant other or a friend and make an evening of it!
Flashlight- In addition to a well-stocked emergency kit at your new Palm Beach home, it’s important to have a working flashlight in case of a power outage or emergency. If you have multiple floors in your home, or multiple people living there, invest in a few flashlights to make an emergency situation less stressful. And be sure to have spare batteries on-hand because the last thing you need if the wind knocks out the power is a bunch of flashlights that don’t work.
Rechargeable Batteries- Speaking of batteries, a new home can be a lot like a holiday morning; lots of toys and gadgets with no batteries to operate them. You’re undoubtedly going to have more electronics in a new home that require batteries, so get a head start by investing in rechargeable ones. You will save yourself money in the long run, and they are better for the environment too.
